Back in 2008, in the game EVE Online, a pair of corporations where founded with the aim of warring with one another as a place for some "bitter-vets" to simply shoot one another over & over again. These corporations were the Blue Republic & the Red Federation, otherwise known as RvB.
Over the years this community waxed & waned and changed leadership & location until mid 2011 when the two corporations made a move to areas close to EVE Onlines main market hub. At the same time, they took a step into the NPSI - Not Purple Shoot It - arena of EVE Online. After a successful first roam, RvB Ganked born.
What started out as a simple drunk roam/slosh op/mobile RvB advert soon became the main weekend NPSI event within EVE Online.
From themed roams to kitchen sink fleets, RvB Ganked did it all. So many early highlights, but since this all happened over a decade ago, many videos are lost to time. This one however is a favourite of mine.
"Ganked" was organising next door and a scout found some capital ships for us to try our hand on. And given we were in Rifter hulls, it could have gone south, but drunk fleets best fleets!
Despite "Gankeds" roots being in drunken roams, lacklustre comms discipline and thrown together themes & fleet ideas, we did know what to do and when to be more "serious business" - mostly thanks to people around the fleet giving advice & support.
Ganked 150 for me was the pinnacle of that, and even though we did not quite hit victory, we showed that disparate "purple" fleets could step up and do damn well when required.
I played EVE Online from 2006 until 2015 pretty solidly. Started out as a typical newbie miner/mission runner, somewhere along the way I discovered pvp and drunk roams and the fun inherent in them both.
RvB was an obvious move, however I never envisioned I would end up running hundreds of fleets across many years for just ANYONE to join, especially if they had a drink or two close & a ship they were willing to lose.
RvB Ganked was the most fun I have had in my gaming years - which are many as I am old!
